Summery was the afternoon, casual was the chit-chat as friends met and greeted each other, and the mood was upbeat, as the husband-wife designer duo Monica Rajeev Malik excitedly talked about their latest collection of Summer Wedding Trousseau at Zerruco by Zilli, The Ashok Hotel.
There was no formal unveiling of designs, no ramp and certainly no catwalk by zero size models, instead there were common ladies (well not so common, socialites to be precise) who were wearing the designs created by the designers along with the designer herself. Of course few of the designs also adorned the mannequins.
The summer wedding trousseau is as unique in style, cut and silhouette, as is the choice of colours including magenta, orange, and bright yellow. With gold being the predominant colour in the entire collection! Fabrics used are georgettes, and chanderis – that are quite light in weight and are considered as summer fabrics.
Speaking on the occasion, the designer duo Monica Rajeev Malik – who are known for their young silhouettes, unusual styling, yet classic with Indian handlooms and finery – said, “Unlike the use of zardosi for which we are known, this time we want to give a treat to the eyes of our buyers.”
Pioneering in the use of unusual fabrics, texturing and detailing, adding dazzling embellishments in vibrant colours, the designer duo Monica Rajeev Malik, in their current collection they have given a traditional Indian outfit a complete contemporary and western look with cuts and drapes that are quite traditional. “Their bridal wear designs are inspired by the joys and rituals associated with Indian weddings. It’s all about traditional richness and hues that work well with Indian features,” said Monica Malik.
The evening was pretty casual with snacks and drinks being served and friends mingling with each other and discussing the designs, cuts and patterns. Present at the event with Monica and Rajeev Malik were Ramola Bachchan, Kitty Kalra, Ala Madhu, Guneeta Dhingra, Sushmita Aggarwal, Seema Puri, artist Anjanna Kuthiala, Kanchan Kapoor, Soneka Chhabra, Dolly Jain, Deepa Narang among others.
